PIPA’s operational oversight body, the Board ensures continuity for the Assembly between General Assembly sessions, with the support of the Secretariat.

Its composition

The Board brings together voting seats and additional non-voting seats.

5 elected members Voting

Representing the sub-regional and linguistic diversity of the Pacific Islands, elected by the General Assembly every two years.

Secretariat-support member Voting

The member providing operational support to the Secretariat sits ex officio, with full voting rights.

President of the GA Non-voting

Additional member of the Board, without voting rights.

Deputy President of the GA Non-voting

Additional member of the Board, without voting rights.

Its responsibilities

Between General Assemblies, the Board carries PIPA’s day-to-day operational governance.

Oversees governance

It oversees PIPA’s operational governance, with the support of the Secretariat.

Develops the budget

It develops the annual budget with the support of the Secretariat and submits it for approval by the General Assembly.

Develops partnerships

It develops partnerships with the support of the Secretariat; partnership instruments are signed by its Chair on behalf of PIPA.

Oversees admissions

It guides the Secretariat’s screening of membership and observer requests, ahead of approval by the General Assembly.

Decision-making

The Board decides collegially, following clear quorum rules.
